CEDAR FALLS - Geraldine M. "Gerry" Nelson, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 17, at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

She was born March 5, 1918, in Independence, daughter of Andrew C. and Ella G. "Gertrude" Jochumsen Madsen. She married Ray E. Nelsen on Oct. 1, 1939, in Cedar Falls. He died June 2, 1997.

Mrs. Nelson graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1935 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) for two years. She was employed as a secretary to the president and vice president at Viking Pump Co. for nine years, retiring in 1963. She also managed the gift shops at Sartori Memorial Hospital and Excelsior Springs (Mo.) Hospital.

Survived by: four daughters, Peggy N. Leeds-Hoover (Al) of New Port Richey, Fla., Susan N. Patterson of Polo, Ill., Barbara J. (Ken) Van Heiden of Cedar Falls and Julie M. Finley (Pete Rodriguez) of Hurst, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Phillip Ray Nelson; two brothers; and two sisters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Home. and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Christian Crusaders, the church, Cedar Falls Lutheran Home or Cedar Valley Hospice.
