WATERLOO - Blythe J. Hirsch, 90, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 17, at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home from complications of hip surgery.

She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Humboldt, daughter of Charles H. and Fern M. Minion Folk. She married Paul E. Hirsch on Sept. 5, 1943, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Spencer. He died April 2, 1986.

Mrs. Hirsch graduated from Humboldt High School in 1936. She worked as a guidance office secretary at Waterloo East High School and then retired as the principal's secretary at West Intermediate in 1983. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, two-time president of the Women of the Church, member of the Rebekah Circle and life member of Allen Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered for 12 years at Allen Hospital as a surgical waiting room attendant.

Survived by: a daughter, Kristine Hirsch of Waterloo; a son, Douglas of Anderson, Calif.; three grandsons, Matthew (Linda) Hirsch of Park Rapids, Minn., Andrew (Kelleye) Hirsch of Sartell, Minn., and Justin (Nura) Plummer of Bothell, Wash.; and eight great-grandchildren, Christopher, Allyssa, Noah, Irelyn, Micah, Serene, Tasneem and Salem.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Junia Kathleen; a sister, Phyllis Peterson; and a brother, Charles Folk.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) Domestic Relief Fund or Arthritis Foundation (Iowa Chapter).
