WATERLOO - Terry J. Brandhorst, 61, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of pancreatic cancer.

He was born June 27, 1948, in Waterloo, son of Gordon and Ellen Groseclose Brandhorst. He married Sandra Drilling on Sept. 7, 1968, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Brandhorst graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1966 and from Hawkeye Institute of Technology. He worked at John Deere for more than 30 years in various trades, most recently as an iron worker, retiring in 1998. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 with the 25th Infantry Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Joel (Amanda Reed) of Binghamton, N.Y., and Brad (Jade Bettin) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a sister, Cathy (Bill) Cox of Tampa, Fla.; his stepfather, Howard Smock of Waterloo; three stepsisters, Deb (Tom) Jarnagin, of Marysville, Wash., Cindy (Tim) Staley of Waterloo and DeeAnn Simmons of Oshkosh, Wis.; and two stepbrothers, Dean Smock and Kent (Kim) Smock of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by: his parents and grandparents.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, with burial in Hudson Cemetery, Hudson. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice in lieu of flowers.
