CEDAR FALLS - Helen L. Vanek, 97, of Western Home Communities Windcove, died Saturday, Oct. 10.

She was born June 7, 1912, in Chicago, daughter of Walter and Mary Ginalski Szymanski. She married James A. Vanek on May 23, 1933, in Chicago. He died April 9, 1979.

Mrs. Vanek was employed as an accountant with the South Suburban School System, Chicago, for 15 years.

Survived by: a daughter, Karen (Richard) Borglum of Janesville; five grandchildren, Laura Habenicht, Kirsten Levi, Alissa Kerr, Anthony Borglum and Kelliann Zahrt; nine great-grandchildren, Jayne, Macy, Kara, Mia, Cassius, Callahan, Lilly, Hadley and one due.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Stanley and Leo Szymanski, and Chester Simmons; and a sister, Florence Supergan.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Chicago. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
