WATERLOO - William G. "Bill" Kerr, 82, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, after suffering a stroke.

He was born April 7, 1927, in Lathrop, Mo., son of Gordon and Garnet Middleton Kerr. He married Edna deBettignies on June 14, 1948, and they later were divorced. He married Karen Brown on Feb. 15, 1977.

Mr. Kerr served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo. He worked as plant superintendent for Rath Packing Co. for 25 years and later was employed as vice president of Palace Clothiers, College Square Mall. He was president of the College Square Merchant Association from 1984-1987 and a member of the Cedar Falls Rotary Club. He retired from Palace Clothiers downtown Cedar Falls in 1992. In 1999, after losing most of his sight, he became involved with KSDS Specialty Guide Dog Services in Washington, Kan., and was blessed with two wonderful guide dogs, graduating with guide dog Cubby in 2001 and guide dog Runza in 2008.

Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife, Karen of Waterloo; his children, E. Brian Kerr of San Francisco, Kevin and Judy Kerr of Waterloo, Lisa and Gordy Waldon of Cedar Falls, DeEtte and David Holien of Cedar Falls, Bruce Kluver, Tracy Kluver and Toni Eckenrod; four grandchildren, Meghan Rogers and Darin of Cedar Falls, Erin Kerr of New Hampshire, Samuel Waldon of Cedar Falls and Emily Kerr of Waterloo; two great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Edwards and Anita of Florida; and sister, Cheryl Edwards Lester and Gary of Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Melvin Kerr and N. June Moody; and Karen's son, Kevin Kluver.

There will be no service. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo VFW and Waterloo American Legion Becker-Chapman Post #138.
