WATERLOO - James Modlin, 80, of Casa Grande, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died Sept. 8.

He was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Mason City, son of Claude and Ruth Ruhl Modlin. He was a 1947 graduate of Waterloo West High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Casa Grande in 1956 where he owned and operated Barnes-Modlin Refrigeration. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Casa Grande Valley Elks Lodge.

Survived by: three daughters, Connie (Bob) Mitchell of Casa Grande, Jamie Pickering of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sallie (Duane) Kleingarn of Cave Creek, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Lisa Crowl of Casa Grande; a stepson, Jeff Crowl of Colorado; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy McClain of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his wife, Bonnie; three sisters; and four brothers.

Family services: were held. J. Warren Funeral Services, Casa Grande, was in charge of arrangements.
