Unknown paper, Dec. 13, 1907

Waterloo-Miss Lucy Storrs Lovejoy, a daughter of Owen Lovejoy and a niece of Elijah P. Lovejoy, noted abolitionists, died here, aged 70. Her death recalls tragic incidents in the struggle for the freedom of the slaves. Her father was a witness to his brother's murder, and kneeling at the grave, he vowed undying hostility to slavery. A year after Elijah's death, Owen became pastor of the Congregational church in Princeton, Ill., and in 1856 was elected to Congress. He was repeatedly in peril of assassination, but never wavered in his aid of the slaves that came to him for help.
