DEATH OCCURRED AT DUNKERTON

SAMUEL GUYER SUFFFERED THIRD STROKE

Early Resident Settled in Lester Township in 1870.

Dunkerton, April 20—(Special)---Samuel Guyer, a resident of Lester township for the past forty years and a man well known and highly respected by all, passed away yesterday morning at his home in Dunkerton, his death being due to paralysis.

Mr. Guyer suffered the first stroke five years ago shortly after his wife’s death. A second one occurred two years ago but he rallied from this and was apparently in fair health until Tuesday morning when the third stroke proved fatal.

Mr. Guyer was born in Pennsylvania, July 20, 1833, and would have been 78 years old at his next birthday. He was married in the spring of 1854 to Elizabeth A. Miller and they lived to spend together their fiftieth wedding day, although the wife’s illness prevented any elaborate celebration. Soon after his marriage, he came to Illinois, then was for a time in Wisconsin, where he enlisted for service in the Civil War in 1863 and remained until mustered out at the close of the war. In 1870, he came to Iowa and his home had been in Lester township ever since.

Mr. Guyer is survived by three sons and two daughters. These are: John W. Guyer, Berlin, N.D.; Thomas and Mansel, Dunkerton; Mrs. Belle Miller, Mitchell, S.D.; and Mrs. Alice Diercks, Selling, Okla. His wife died five years ago last August, the oldest son, Wm. C., died fifteen years ago at Dunkerton, and three children died in infancy. Mr. Guyer was the last of a family of several brothers and sisters.

Funeral Friday Afternoon.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Baptist Church at Dunkerton and the interment will be in the family lot there.
