Jim Riker, age 70 of New Haven, Mitchell county, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa.

Graveside inurnment services will be held at on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at the Osage Cemetery, Osage, Iowa, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating, and military honors by the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and the Osage American Legion Post 278. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage is in charge of the arrangements.

Jim was born in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, Iowa, on May 3, 1938 the son of Arnold and Martha (Swingen) Riker. He attended school in Nashua. Jim joined the Army on June 10, 1955 serving three tours in Viet Nam and was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired after twenty years in the service on July 1, 1975. Jim was a member of the Osage United Methodist Church.

Jim is survived by: his wife, Janice Riker of New Haven; by his children: Rosa (Tom) Brunson of Spring Valley, Minnesota; Teodoro Riker of Geneva; Samuel (Tamara) Riker of Hampton; Angel (Scott) Dillon of Hampton; by step-children: Sterling (Julie) Bierbrodt of Osage; Janelle (Mark) Vaage of Mason City; Kenton Bierbrodt of Marshalltown; Todd (Mary) Bierbrodt of Osage; David Reiser of Marshalltown; by a sister, Carol Riker of Osage; by mother-in-law, Carlene Wigant of Osage; by 31 grandchildren; and by 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; by a brother, Morris Riker; by a sister, Betty Riker; by a stepson, John Bierbrodt; by an infant daughter; and by grandchildren, Hailey Riker and Samuel Riker Jr.

Arrangments are by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, Iowa.
