Obituary

WATERLOO, IOWA - Merle D. Harvey, 65, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born May 21, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Willis D. and Blanche Hitchborn Harvey. He married Betty Ann Peverill July 31, 1968, in Galena, Illinois.

Mr. Harvey was employed as a machinist at John Deere Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Black Hawk Sheriff Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, David Harvey of Oakdale, Minn.; four daughters: Penny Ramirez of Evansdale, Cindy Becerra of Waterloo, Becky Baxton of Lindstrom, Minn., and Tammy Guzman of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a stepson, Mark Lantz of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Brenda Zarifis of Lodi, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Van Dyke of Waterloo.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
