Services for retired farmer
will be at family home on Sunday

LA PORTE, IOWA - Funeral rites for Charles P. Hummel, who died at noon Friday [11 Aug 1933] after an illness of four months from kidney and heart ailment, will be Sunday afternoon. Services will be at the Hummel home with Rev. C. D. James, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church here, officiating. Burial will be in West View Cemetery.

Born on farm near town.

Mr. Hummel was born June 12, 1878 at the home farm, three and one-half miles west of La Porte City, where he grew to manhood and which he later managed. The family moved to town in 1915.

He married Miss Bertha McCall here on Nov. 12, 1902. They were parents of four sons and a daughter, who with the mother survive. they are: Russel C. Hummel, Waterloo; Daryl Hummel; Lloyd D. Hummel, La Porte City, Guy M. Hummel, farm near Garrison; Mrs. Byron Skiles, on farm near Mt. Auburn.

Parents also survive.

He also is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Hummel and sister, Mrs. C. E. Wagar.

Death Calls Chas. Hummel

Passed Away at the family Home Last Friday.

Funeral Sunday

The death of Charles Hummel, last Friday about noon, came as a shock to his friends about town.

Although it was generally known that he was ill, only his relatives and a few friends realized that his condition was critical. Last spring Mr. Hummel became ill from flu, which developed later into kidney and heart trouble. At times there were indications that he would recover but his improvement was only temporary and he gradually lost strength until the end came.

Charles Hummel was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Hummel and was born June 12th, 1878, on the home farm, three and on-half miles west of La Porte City. There he grew to manhood and on Nov. 12th, 1902; he was married to Miss Bertha McCall of this place. They established their home of the Hummel farm where they lived thirteen years and then moved to LaPorte City.
Four sons and a daughter were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hummel, all of whom survive.

Left to mourn with the widow are Russell Hummel, of Waterloo; Daryl and Lloyd Hummel of La Porte City; Guy Hummel who lives near Garrison on a farm; Mrs. Bryon Skiles, of Mt. Auburn. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Hummel, and his only sister, Mrs. C. E. Wagar, of this place also survive.

The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon in the late home of the deceased and was conducted by Rev. C. D. James, pastor of the M. E. church. Appropriate selections were sung by the Misses Ruth and Bessie Sawyer, accompanied by Mrs. Neva McChane. The casket attendants were H. G. Esher, L. S. Bannister, D. E. Quackenbush, R. L. Haire, Ralph Hudson and E. L. Pfalzgraf. Interment was made in West View cemetery.

Dr. Jay and daughter, Jeanette, Waverly; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse George, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Albert, Brandon.; Mrs. and Mrs. Otis Wright, Luzerne.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wood, Elkton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fox, Jessup; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Jacobsen, Elkton, Minn.
