Beloved Young Man is Called
Ralph H. Haire Died Sunday Morning After Short Illness. Funeral Held Tuesday

The death of Ralph H. Haire, older son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Haire, last Sunday morning, came as a terrible blow to the relatives and friends. He had been ill only a short time and his condition was not considered critical until a day or so before he was taken. Young Haire been in CCC camp NO 781, in Backbone State Park near Strawberry Point for the past nine months and liked his work very much. He was a general favorite with the officers and the boys with whom he was associated. About two weeks ago he complained of a slight sore throat and the glands of his neck were swollen. A short time later, pleurisy developed and he was put to bed and given every care. As soon as his condition indicated pneumonia two professional nurses were placed on the case and he was never left alone a minute. Although he was large and robust in appearance he was not able to combat the disease and answered the final summons Sunday morning, March 10th, at one o’clock
Ralph Harvey Haire was born in La Porte City on May 27th 1916, in the house where his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Harvey, now live. For a few years the family lived in Cedar Falls but the greater part of his life was spent in this place. He attended the local school and completed the course with the class of 1933. On November 11th, of last year the Hare family moved to Strawberry Point to live. Ralph had taken into the Civilian Conservation Corps last summer, had been promoted and when his time expires, had he lived, he would have been given a place in the plumbing department at very attractive wages.
Surviving are the parents and one brother, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Haire and Charles, Strawberry Point; the grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Harvey, La Porte City; two uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. U. A. Harvey and Mr. and Mrs. George Bellinger, all of this place.
The body was brought from the camp to La Porte City by undertaker He. E. Waldruff and on Tuesday morning was taken to the home of the grandparents. Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock and was conducted by Rev. James R. Gable, pastor of the Methodist church in Strawberry Point. Favorite selections were sung by Mrs. Frank Nabholz and Miss Bessie Sawyer, and the casket bears were former school mates, Ray Howrey, Melvin Fleekinger, Arnold Buser, Donald Bettner, Donald Harton and Harold Langford. Interment was made in West View Cemetery.
