Mrs. Nels Petersen, 82, died of carcinoma in her home, 1060 Evergreen avenue, at 7 p.m. Saturday after a three months' illness.

She was born Carrie Marie Larsen, daughter of Lars and Mary Larsen, in Denmark, and was married there to Nels Petersen on May 6, 1890. They came to the United States in 1893 and went to Marshalltown, Ia., where they resided for 18 years.

They moved to Waterloo 33 years ago and have lived here since. Until his retirement 14 years ago, he was employed a the Rath Packing Co.

She was a member of the Danish Lutheran Church.

Surviving are the widower; two sons, C. Burt Petersen, Knoxville, Ia., and Harry, Route 2, Waterloo three daughters, Mrs. Mary K. Tallant, Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Anna M. Cowan, 2408 Falls avenue, and Mrs. Katherine Griffith, 108 Carolina Sreet; one brother, Jens Larsen, Lincoln, Kan,; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sons preceded her in death during their infancy.

The body was taken to the O'Keefe and Towne funeral home. Funeral arrangements await receipt of word from the daughter in Tennessee.
