Services Held Here For F. Crane
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Johannsen Funeral home here for Fred Crane, 87, whose death occurred Saturday.
Rev. Henry Schrag of the Presbyterian church conducted the service.
Clifford Burr, accompanied by Mrs. Burr, sang 'The Lord's Prayer' and 'In The Garden".
Burial at Sumner
The body was taken to the Sumner Union Mound cemetery near Sumner, where it was laid to rest in the family lot.
Relatives from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Crane, Sr. and Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Brady and Patricia and Fred A. Crane, Jr., Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dutler, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hummel and Mr. and Mrs. James Crane, Waterloo and Mrs. Bertha Turner, Mrs. Mary Leverich and Mr and Mrs. H.H. St.Clair, Vinton.
Died Saturday
Mr. Crane died Saturday morning at 12:20 at Satori hospital Cedar Falls, where he was taken for care Thursday. He had been in failing health from conditions resulting from old age for a year and had become increasingly weaker the last few weeks.
Frederick Glidden Crane was born Jan. 10, 1865 to Carso and Electa (Glidden) Crane near Anamosa, Iowa and spent his early years in that community.
On March 24, 1892 he was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Austin of Vinton. They farmed near Anamosa for five years and near Sumner for about 17 years.
In 1914 they retired from the farm and moved to Vinton, where he was a fireman at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving school for 23 years.
Moved Here
After the death of his wife on May 1, 1945 he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Clifford Dutler of La Porte City, the greater part of the time.
Surviving are two children, Fred Austin Crane, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Dutler, La Porte City, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Brainard, San Fransisco, Calif.
His wife and one son, James, preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
