Jacob F. Reinhart, 84, veteran of the Civil war and pioneer settler in Mt. Vernon township, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis hospital as result of injuries suffered when he fell down a cellar stairway at his home 83 Mulberry. He did not regain consciousness after the fall.

Mr. Reinhart was born at Wurtemburg, Germany, May 28, 1839. At the age of 14 he came with his parents to America. After residing several years in the state of New York, the family came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Mt. Vernon township. Upon the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted in the Thirty-second Illinois infantry and served in many engagements with Confederate troops, including Chattanooga and Missionary ridge. He returned to the farm after being mustered out of service and was married March 16, 1873 to Miss Emma Valentine at Waterloo. The couple made their home on a farm in Mt. Vernon township until 1906, when they came to Waterloo.

Surviving are two sons Orrin V. Reinhart, Mt. Vernon township; Charles S. Reinhart, Waterloo, and two granddaughters, Ethel and May Reinhart, Mt. Vernon township.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kistner chapel, and at 2 p.m. from First Evangelical church, in charge of Rev. Clinton F. Smith. Members of Robert Anderson post, G. A. R. of which Mr. Reinhart was a member, and the Women's Relief corps will take part in the service. Burial will be at Fairview mausoleum.
