Fred Abodeely, an accountant with the Norton Co. 46 years, died yesterday at the City Hospital of Worcester after a brief illness. He was 78.

Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Mr. Abodeely moved to Massachusetts to attend Boston University and had lived the past 25 years in Shrewsbury. He was a member of the St. George Orthodox Cathedral.

He had retired from the Norton Co. in 1969.

He leaves his wife, Zahae (Peters); three daughters, Lynne LaMotte of Charlestown, June Donnelly of Shrewsbury and Nancy Abodeely of Oakland, Calif.; a brother, Frank of Shrewsbury; four sisters, Freda Francis of Worcester, Alice Fincher of Shrewsbury, Eva Moyer of Worcester and Nell Flanagan of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. George Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery.
