Another Pioneer Gone
Jacob Igou passes away at home of his son Thursday evening
One of La Porte's Oldest Citizens Had passed the Four Score and Tea Mark - Had lived in Iowa almost 50 Years
Jacob Igou, one of La Porte's oldest citizens, and one of the pioneers of this section, died at the home of his son, J. H. Igou, on Thursday evening of this week. The deceased had passed the four score and ten mark but was in good health for one of his age, and death came rather unexpectedly. He was on our streets last Saturday and, although not feeling as well as usual during the week, he had been about the house most of the time and was able to sit up on Thursday. He had been subject to asthma for a number of years and an attack of this trouble was the immediate cause of his death. He was well known in this community where he had lived for the past forty-five years.
Jacob Igou was born in Huntington, county, PA, June 19, 1813, where he spend his early manhood. He moved from his native state to Ohio where he lived until 1834 when he moved with his family to Iowa, first settling in Johnson county where he lived for five years. From Johnson county, he moved to La Porte, where he settled on a farm southwest of town. Some years ago he moved to town where he has since resided. He was married while living in Pennsylvania, his wife dying in this city about 7 years ago. To this union were born six children, four boys and two daughters, all of whom are still living. The daughters are Mrs. I Beeson of this city and Mrs. Wm. Kruger of St. Paul. The sons are all living in this city and are Theodore, M. Joseph H., Frances M. and Albert A. For the past few years the deceased has been living with his daughter, Mrs. I. Beeson, but at the time of his death was at the home of his son, Joseph, Mrs. Beason having done on a visit to her daughters at Minneapolis.
Arrangement has not yet been made for the funeral serves on account of its not being known just when the daughters can get here.
