William J. Burbank
Treasurer of State. Was born in Waverly, Bremer county, Iowa, May 21, 1866, of American parents, his father a native of the state of New York, his mother from pioneer American stock of the state of Wisconsin. The maternal grandfather, Joseph Kinney, Jr., being a member of the first territorial legislature of Wisconsin. He received his education in the schools at Waverly. He is a Mason, a Knight Templar, and belongs to Waterloo camp of Sons of Veterns. At the age of 16 years was taken into his father's drug store at Allison, Iowa, and became a registered pharmacist (certificate 3669) in the year 1889. Was married December 14, 1895, to Miss Lena A. Hummell. While in the drug business at Allison he also served as postmaster four years during the Harrison administration. He was elected county treasurer of Butler county in 1898 and re-elected in 1900. Moved to Waterloo in 1904, going into the employ of the Paul Davis Dry Goods company. Nine years later he was elected county treasurer of Black Hawk county and re-elected in 1916 and 1918. Elected state treasurer in 1920. Republican in politics.
