Ida Picknell, near Shellsburg, conceived a strong attachment for a young man named Richards, of which he knew nothing. She heard a rumor that he was about to marry another young lady, and forthwith took poison. When she began to suffer from its effects, she changed her mind about wanting to die, and told her father what she had done and why she had done it. Then every possible effort was made to save her life, but in a few minutes, she was a corpse.
