SERVICES SATURDAYIsaac (Ike) Newton Hoover, 81, of 513 4th Ave., in Grinnell died Wednesday evening at the Lone Elm Nursing Home in Grinnell where he had lived since January of this year.
The son of John F. and Ida May Kraft Hoover, Mr. Hoover was born Aug. 5, 1886, at Lancaster, Pa. The family moved to Benton County, Iowa, when Mr. Hoover was two years old and he received his education in the local schools near Van Horne.
On Jan. 27, 1914, Mr. Hoover was married to Dorothy L. Russell at Marion, Iowa. The couple made their home in Marion for a short while before moving to Keystone. Mr. and Mrs. Hoover moved from Keystone to Cedar Rapids where he worked as a self-employed carpenter. In 1934, he moved to Grinnell and for the past several years he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Champ Delk at 513 4th Ave.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Woodle; three daughters, Mrs. Amos (Ida May) White of Harvey, Mrs. Champ (Dorothy Jean) Delk of Grinnell, and Mrs. Charles (Genevieve) Padgett of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren, Marlene Delk of Grinnell and Charles and Geneva Padgett of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Roy of Marshalltown and Charles of Gillette, Wyo.; one half brother, Willard of Austin, Texas; and several nices and nephews.
Mr. Hoover was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and one sister -- Harvey, Walter, George, Harry and Martha.
Funeral services for Mr. Hoover will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Leslie Warner, pastor of the First Friends Church, officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Seeman, Walter Seeman, Lester Seeman, Clarence Hoover, Harry Hoover and John Hoover. Mrs. Donald J. Renaud will be the organist.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery at Van Horne, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
