Gleanings From The Blairstown Press From By-Gone Years

Ten Years Ago

When a large maple tree was cut down on the Charles Rieke farm west of town it was found to have a pair of skates imbedded in the center of it. L. E. Pederson and Sam Herl had felled the tree and sawed it in to blocks of stove length. When they tried to split one of the blocks the axe struck the skates and was ruined. The tree was 48 inches in diameter. Experienced timber men say it would take 40 years for the tree to grow over skates, which were probably hung in the crotch of the tree and forgotten.
