As we go to press we learn of
the death of Charles Bisom Sr. of
Brayton last evening. Charley was
a pioneer druggist of Audubon
County. We shall print his obituary
next week. The Journal force
extends sympathy to the bereaved

IN MEMORIUM OF
CHARLES L. BISOMAs we went to press last week,
news came over the wire that another
of Audubon County's most
popular and respected retired business
men had passed to the great
beyond.Mr. Charles L. Bisom was born
in Berkley County, West Virginia,
on June 16th, 1858, came west with
his parents when seven years of
age and first settled in Ogle County,
Illinois, and later removed to
Pow(e)shiek County, Iowa. It was
here he received his common school
education, when later he attended
Western College at Tama and still
later the State Normal College at
Iowa Falls.About 1879 he came to Audubon
and entered the employment in the
Cloughly Bros. drug store as clerk
where he remained for about one
and a half years. He was selected
as Deputy Auditor, but later returned
to the Cloughly Bros. Drug
Store, where he fitted himself for a
pharmacy examination(.) He passed
the examination successfully and
opened up a drug business in Brayton,
where for twenty three years
he was identified with the drug
business and some later with stock
buying in connection.He was a member of the Independent
Order of Oddfellows, of the
Masonic Lodge and of the Protective
Order of Elks.He was married to Miss Elizabeth
Wattles in September 1880 and to
this union five children were born.
They are: Mrs. Imo Miller, Mrs.
Edna Hansen, Mrs. Ethel Brown,
Charles Jr. and John, who died
while very young.Through Mr. Bisom's courteous
and honest treatment, he built up a
wonderful trade in Brayton, where
he has lived for several years, loved
and respected by all who knew him(.)His kind acts will live on and on
and reflect his worthiness in his respected family.He passed away Wednesday, January
22nd, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held from the
home Friday, a nephew, Rev. Clarence
Bigelow of Atlantic officiating.
Interment was made in the Exira
cemetery.RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT
Hall of Audubon Lodge No. 217,
I. 0.0. F.Whereas the Supreme Ruler, of
all things temporal has taken from
our midst, our respected and highly
esteemed brother, C. L. Bisom.Whereas, We are once more forci-
bly reminded that all who are born
must die, therefore, be itResolved: That while we bow
in humble submission to Him who
doeth all things well, this lodge
feels keenly the loss of our brother.Be it further resolved, that the
heartfelt sympathy of all-the members
of Audubon Lodge, No. 217,
be extended to the family and
friends, that the charter of this
lodge be draped for a period of
thirty days, that these resolutions
be spread on the minutes of the
lodge, that a copy be sent to the
family.
