BODY OF MRS. JOE
MEURER LAID TO REST

--------
Former Exira Lady Suc-
cumbs after An Attack
of Summer Flu

-------

Many people were made sad
Saturday by the death of Mrs.
J. S. Meurer who died after an ill-
ness of several weeks from acute
atrophy of the liver, an incurable
disease which started six weeks
ago from influenza. The attend-
ing physician had called specialists
from over the state and had held
several consultations.

Mrs. Meurer had been run down
in health a greater part of the
summer but her family did not
realize the seriousness of her con-
dition until Friday. She had been
confined to her bed only the last
two weeks.

Mrs. Meurer was a woman who
was very much devoted to her
home and family but has also
taken the greatest interest in the
church and its work, having all
her life lived a faithful and active
member of the Catholic church.
While a resident of Newton for
only two years, she has become
one of the leading women of the
city and her many kind deeds and
her willingness to serve has made
her life one to be remembered by
friends and acquaintances, who
grieve with the family because of
the loss of their loved one.

Helen Agnes Navratil was born
in Audubon thirty-four years ago
last April and was married No-
vember 30, 1916 to J. S. Meurer
at Exira, Iowa. To this union one
son, Marvin, was born thirteen
months ago last Wednesday.

Her death makes the fourth one
in her family within a period of a
few years, her father and two
brothers having preceded her in
death. She is survived by her
husband who is a member of the
furniture company of Meurer,
Murdoch and Toedt, and her baby
son, Marvin; her mother, Mrs.
Mary Navratil, of Exira; and three
sisters, Matilda, who is a sister in
St. Benedict's convent in Chicago,
and Mary and Lillian, and a broth-
er, Otto, all of Exira.--Newton
Daily News.

Funeral services were held Tues-
day at 10 o'clock at the Holy Trin-
ity Catholic church, Father Cos-
tello in charge. Interment was
made in the Catholic cemetery.
