Frank Beers,
Pioneer Of
County, Dies

Had Been Resident of Coun-
ty 73 Years. Funeral

-------

Frank Beers, well known pio-
neer resident of this county, died
at his home here Tuesday morn-
ing following a three weeks illness.
Death was due to complication
of heart and kidney trouble. He
became unconscious Sunday noon
and gradually grew weaker until
the end, which came without him
regaining consciousness.

Frank Beers was born in Walton,
Delaware county, New York, on
September 28, 1854. His father,
Bradley Beers, was one of the best
known pioneers of this county com-
ing here in 1856 and buying a large
farm in Hamlin township. After
building a home there, Mr. Beers
returned to New York and brought
with him to their new home on the
prairie, his wife and son, Frank,
who was then three years of age.
It was here that Frank Beers grew
to manhood.

On October 4th, 1888, he was
united in marriage to Mary Theresa
Meurer, and to this union six chil-
dren were born. After his marriage,
Mr. Beers purchased a farm in
Greeley township on which they
lived eighteen years. As the fami-
ly grew, he later purchased a larg-
er farm where he became one of
the most progressive farmers in
Audubon county. In 1917 he re-
tired from farm life, moving to this
city where he lived until the time
of his death.

Those left to mourn are his wi-
dow, four sons, Bert A. of Des
Moines, George S., who resides on
the home farm, Orville F. of Grand
Haven, Michigan, B. Joseph, who
lives at home, and two daughters,
Mary Ellen and Margaret of Des
Moines, and seven grand children.

A sister, Mrs. Edward Young and
a brother, Samuel Beers, preceded
him in death about ten years ago.

Funeral services were held Thurs-
day afternoon, February 19th, 1931,
from the Church of Christ at two
o'clock, conducted by Rev. Whittier
assisted by Rev. Hill. Burial was in
the Exira cemetery.
