--------
Former Exira Resident
Buried Here Wednesday

--------

Funeral services were held here
yesterday over the remains of Wil-
liam S. Bush. The service was held
at the Federated church with Rev.
Virgil B. Hill in charge. Burial was
in Exira cemetery.

William S. Bush was born in North
Brookfield, Mass., February 13, 1854,
and died at Bonesteel, South Dakota,
August 6, 1927.

At the age of four years he with
his parents moved to Audubon county.
It was here he was married to Miss
Mary L. Patty, in 1875.

In 1883 they moved to Atkinson,
Nebraska, and in 1890 they moved to
an Indian Reservation in South
Dakota.

Here he engaged in raising cattle
and at one time had a large herd of
Shorthorn cattle. During the late
years of his life he was engaged in
business in Bonesteel.

He was taken sick last May and
died at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Adams. He is survived by his
wife, one son, Lyman, and one daugh-
ter, Mrs. Mabel Adams, all of Bone-
steel, South Dakota. One daughter,
Lillian , died in 1904. Two grandsons
also survive, one grandson having
died in 1920.

Mr. Bush was a pioneer of two
states and way always found to be a
man of the highest sense of honor
and duty towards his fellow men. As
a token of the esteem in which he was
held by the citizens of Bonesteel,
migh be mentioned the fact that a
purse of about eighty dollars was
raised to buy an especially fine
floral trubute for his funeral. He
was interested in law and politics. He
was a leader in establishing law and
order in an early day. By his fair
dealing he won the friendship of the
Indians and in a time of danger from
an Indian uprising a large number
of Indians came to his house to pro-
tect him from any possible danger.
