Jens Petersen, son of P. C. Peter-
sen of this place, died Saturday at
the family home here. Jens was in-
jured August 20, 1931, at Carroll
when caught underneath the bucket
of a concrete mixer while substitut-
ing for another man on a construc-
tion crew. Everything that medical
skill could do for him proved of no
avail and he had been an invalid
from the time of the accident until
his death.

Jens Peter Petersen was born in
Hamlin township, Audubon cunty,
on December 9, 1905. As a child he
was baptized in St. John's Lutheran
church west of Brayton and, after
due instruction, was confirmed in
the Lutheran faith at Elk Horn. He
spent his entire lifetime in this coun-
ty.

He was a courageous, congenial
and kind young man, always willing
to do his share and take the brunt
of the burden no matter what it
was. He was always looking on
the bright side of life and during
the time that he was an invalid was
always hopeful and cheerful. He
put up an admirable fight in an ef-
fort to regain his health but follow-
ing the death of his mother, on
March 7, 1932, he seemed to gradu-
ally grow weaker until his demise.

Besides his father he leaves to
mourn his loss four sisters and four
brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Julius
Mahl of Michigan City, Indiana;
Mrs. Clinton Petersen of Harlan,
Mrs. Jess Chapman of Anita and
Miss Elsie at home. The brothers
are John Petersen of Syracuse, Ne-
braska; Niels, Henry and Peter Pe-
tersen, all of Exira.

Funeral services were held Sun-
day afternoon at the home and at
the Danish Lutheran church con-
ducted by the Rev. H. L. Jensen.
Burial was in Exira cemetery.
