January 1973Mrs. Maarbjerg Dies In Norway
Mrs. Gertrude Hinkhouse Maarbjerg died Jan. 18 in Oslo, Norway, according to word received by local friends and realtives.
Mr. and Mrs. Maarbjerg were visiting their daughter and her family in Oslo when she became ill in November. Burial will be in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Mr. Maarbjerg was born Aug. 17, 1899 in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of John F. and Amy Junkin Hinkhouse. She attended Fairfield public schools and Parsons College, graduating in 1921.
After teaching in West Union and Cedar Rapids, she taught for three years in the American College for Girls in Cairo, Egypt. She also served as a school librarian in Denver, Colo.
On June 24, 1930 she was married to Karl Martin Maarbjerg. They had made their home in Copenhagen since 1932.
Surviving are her husband and three children: Karen (Mrs. A. Vedeler), Oslo, Norway; John, Brussels, Belgium; and Nancy (Mrs. E. Back-Kristianson), Copenhagen. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. E.K. Mapes, Mount Pleasant. Three brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Maarbjerg served as president and a member of the board of the American Woman's Club in Copenhagen. Many Fairfield resident the hos. . . .
