Funeral services for Darwin “Dar” Ludwig, 72, were conducted Jan. 21,
at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Interment was in
the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Darwin L. Ludwig, the son of W.C. and Anna Phippen Ludwig, was born
Jan. 19, 1930, on a farm east of Exira, and died Jan. 17, 2003, at his
home in Des Moines.
Darwin was baptized in the Exira Christian Church. He attended Exira
Community Schools, and then worked for Godwin Manufacturing
Company. He was a Marine Corps veteran.
On June 28, 1953, Darwin was united in marriage to Nadine Paulsen in
the Hamlin Lutheran Church. They lived in Exira for a few years and
then moved to Des Moines. He worked for various businesses and then
was employed at Edmund and Paulsen Construction for 25 years. He
was co-founder of Ludwig Roofing Company, with his son, Rick, and
was still active in the business at the time of his death.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his
parents-in-law, George and Dagmar Paulsen, and his beloved aunt,
Emma Ludwig.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine; his children: Steve Ludwig and wife,
Julie, of Moreno Valley, CA; Rick Ludwig and wife, Roxanne, of Des
Moines; and Valerie Williams of West Des Moines; his grandchildren:
Jeff, Brian and Linsey Ludwig, of Moreno Valley; and Anna Ludwig, of
Des Moines; his brothers and sister, and their spouses: Glen and
Pearle Ludwig, of San Bernardino, CA; Bill and Jan Ludwig, of
Shenandoah; and Donna and Marvin Thygensen, of Audubon; his
brother-in-law and wife, Dean and Charlene Paulsen, of Des Moines;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Darwin L. Ludwig, 72, of the 4000 block of 41st Street died of injuries suffered in a fall Friday at home. The death has been ruled an accident. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Ludwig was born in Exira and had moved to Des Moines 43 years ago. He was the founder of Ludwig Roofing Co. He was a Marine Corps veteran and enjoyed watching sports and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine two sons, Steve of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Rick of Des Moines a daughter, Valerie Williams of West Des Moines two brothers, Glen of San Bernardino, Calif., and Bill of Shenandoah a sister, Donna Thygesen of Audubon and four grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at McLaren's Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.
