Loses Another of
Her Pioneers-------
Dwight West Dies After
Several Months Illness.
Funeral Friday--------
Carl Dwight West, well known
resident of Exira and one of the
real pioneers of this county, died
at 1:30 last Thursday morning. He
had been in poor health for the
past three or four years, but had
been critically ill but a short time.
His death occurred at the home
of Miss Rose McNally, where he
had been a patient for several
weeks.Mr. West was born July 20, 1849,
in Illinois, and came to this coun-
ty with his step-father and mother,
the late Mr. and Mrs. Edson Her-
rick. He was married to Hannah
Miller on February 5, 1879. They
were the parents of six children,
one of whom died in infancy and
another, Mrs. Laura Hansen, pas-
sing away several years ago at
College Springs. Mrs. West pre-
ceded her husband in death on De-
cember 21, 1930.Mr. and Mrs. West lived for
many years on a farm north of
Exira and moved to town about 11
years ago. They saw all of the
hardships of the pioneer family
and Mr. West could recount many
tales of the Indians who roamed
this country in an early day.Surviving are four children as
follows: Mrs. Fred Wahlert of
Hillrose, Colorado; Mrs. Grace
Young, Dayton West and Ernest
West, all of Exira. He also leaves
to mourn his passing three sisters,
Mrs. J. Mack Love of California,
Mrs. Lillian Meyer of Omaha and
Mrs. Fred Denison of Anita.Funeral services were held Fri-
day afternoon at the Federated
church with the Rev. O. C. Huff in
charge and burial was in the Exira
cemetery.
