County Over 56 Years.

-------

V. J. Anciaux, a resident of
Audubon county for over 56
years, died at the family home
here last Wednesday evening at 9
o'clock. He had been in poor
health for many years.

Victor John Anciaux was born
at Brussels, Belgium on May 27,
1850. At a tender age, he went
to make his home with an uncle.
When but three years of age he
came to the United States, mak-
ing his home near Iowa City. In
1878, he came to Audubon county
and had lived here since. Mr.
Anciaux and his wife retired from
their farm in Greeley township
and moved to Exira some 15
years ago.

He was married to Miss Han-
nah Curtis on September 18, 1881
in Greeley township the wedding
being solemnized by Elder D. C.
Smith. To this union were born
nine children, two of whom died
in infancy.

Those who (s)urvive him are his
widow and seven children. The
children are Mrs. J. C. Rucker
and Mrs. W. W. Burr of Hamlin,
Mrs. Lester Moore of Denver,
Colorado; Mrs. Harve Ward of
Yuma, Colorado; Mrs. Owen
Williams, Mrs. Lincoln Statzell
and Mrs. Leon Milliman of Exira.
Twelve grandchildren also survive.

He was baptized by the Rev.
McQuarry in 1898 and had re-
mained a faithful member of the
Christian church through all
these years. He was always pres-
ent at church service when it
was possible for him to attend
and even while sick and ailing at-
tended service, the last time on
Sunday, June 3.

Always considerate of others
and thinking not of himself, pati-
ent and kindly, always willing to
help a neighbor or friend, this
splendid man will be greatly miss-
ed by his family and the entire
community.

Funeral services were held Fri-
day afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
Christian church with the Rev. A.
G. Whittier in charge. Burial
was in the Exira cemetery.
