FORMER EXIRA BOY DIES
IN WASHINGTON----------
George Milliman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Chas. Milliman, former residents
of Exira, passed away Sunday at
Wenatchee, Washington, death being
due to pneumonia. We will endeavor
to secure a complete obituary for next

Washington Papers Tell Of Illness
And Death of George Milliman---------
After an illness of less than two
days, George Milliman died Sunday
noon from an attack of the flu. Few
even knew of his illness when shocked
by the news of his death.As a member of Bert Ladd's or-
chestra, Mr. Milliman went to Pa-
teros Friday to play for a dance that
evening, intending to proceed with
the orchestra to play at Winthrop Sat-
urday night. While he felt the effects
of a cold when he left here, Mr. Mil-
liman did not consider it would inter-
fere with the trip. At Pateros, how-
ever, he rapidly became worse and
went to the hotel. When his asso-
ciates returned from the dance he was
a very sick man.Dr. McKinley of Brewster, attended
him and brought him to Okanogan
Saturday noon.Mr. Milliman has been a resident
of Okanogan for several years and
was also well known in the Winthrop
district. He had numerous relatives
both here and at Winthrop. He came
from Iowa fourteen years ago.He has been a popular member of
bands and orchestras, being an ac-
complished player of many instru-
ments. The past few months he has
been assisting in the organization and
instruction of the Oka(n)ogan Juvenile
Band, a work that he had taken up
with enthusiasm and which was pro-
gressing with marked efficiency. Mr.
Milliman was a carpenter and con-
tractor.Funeral services were held here
Tuesday afternoon at the request of
musical organizations of which Mr.
Milliman was a member. Burial will
be made at Winthrop Wednesday o(a)f-
ternoon, with services at 2 o'clock at
the Methodist church.--Okanogan In-

George Milliman was born at
Exira, Iowa, March 19, 1888, and de-
parted this life February 21, 1926,
at Okanogan, Wash., aged 37 years,
11 months and 2 days. He was united
in marriage September 17, 1916, at
Winthrop, to Louise, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. G. W. Vanderpool. To this
union were born four children, Floyd,
Alice, Lowell and George.He also leaves to mourn his demise
his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Milliman, of Winthrop; sis-
ters, Mrs. Mercedes Hotchkiss, Mrs.
Florabelle Hix, Miss Mozelle Milli-
man of Winthrop; Mrs. Goldie Sulli-
van of Omak, Wash., and brother,
William Milliman of Winthrop.He received a good education in
the high school at Exira, Iowa, and
later taking a course in architecture.
He was associated in Iowa with his
father in contracting and building.In July, 1912, he accompanied his
grandmother, Mrs. Emma Brinker-
hoff, and uncle, W. E. Brinkerhoff,
to Winthrop where he worked at his
trade of contractor and builder. His
first work at his trade in the west
was helping on the church building
from whch he was taken to his final
resting place. His first contract was
the erection of the Winthrop high
school building. When the County
Seat was removed to Okanogan he
moved to that place as it offered a
better location for the class of build-
ings he preferred to work upon. As
an accomplished workman he was
much sough(t) after and his handiwork
may be seen in all the important
buildings in that city.He was an accomplished mian
and associated with several of the bet-
ter organizations. He was solo clari-
netist of the Elks Band of Wenatchee.
He was universally liked and respect-
ed. "His word is absolutely good,"
is an expression often applied to him
by those who knew him.Funeral services were conducted
from the Winthrop Methodist church,
Wednesday, February 24, at 2:00,
Rev. Moore delivering the funeral or-
ation. The burial services at the
cemetery were conducted by the
Knights of Pythias Lodge, of which
he was a member.--The Methow Val-
