Stroke Fatal To Well
Known Kimballton Man

Martin N. Esbeck, 78, one of the
promoters of the Atlantic Northern
railway and pioneer Kimballton
business man died Thursday at his
home in Kimballton. Mr. Esbeck
suffered a stroke early Tuesday
morning and was critically ill un-
til his death.

He had been in the hardware
business at Kimballton for about
45 years. In later years he con-
ducted an auto business in connec-
tion with his hardware store.

Mr. Esbeck was found uncon-
scious early Tuesday morning by
his daughter, Mrs. Conrad Nielsen
when she went to call him for
breakfast. He is believed by rela-
tives to have suffered the stroke
shortly before he was called by his
daughter.

He was born July 18, 1853 in
Denmark. He came to the United
States when a young man and lo-
cated near Kimballton where he
farmed for a year and then opened
a hardware store in Kimballton
??? that conducted that business
????.

He is survived by nine children.
His wife died five years ago. The
children are John , of Elk Horn, Mrs.
Nielsen, Ed and Elmer of Kimball-
ton, Mrs. Alvin Ashton of Sioux
City, Mrs. Martin Swanson of Oma-
ha, Mrs. Alvin A??er of Omaha,
Leonard, a patient at a veterans'
hospital at Ray, Arizona, and Mrs.
F. L. Harriman of Washington, D.
C., three brothers, Lars and Peter
Esbeck of Elk Horn and Andrew
Esbeck of California, also survive.

Funeral services were held at
1:30 Monday afternoon at Kimball-
ton with Rev. Jorgensen in
charge and burial was in the Kim-
ballton cemetery.
