“LITTLE JIMMY” GONE
_____
James L. Johnson, So Well Known In
Exira, Passed Away At Fairacres
Farm Last Saturday Morning
________
James L. Johnson was born in Denmark February 24, 1866 and died at his home, north of Exira April 6th 1912, aged 46 years, 1 month and 13 days old. He came to this country when 13 years old with his parents who settled on a farm near Avoca. They had quite a large family and he began at once to work out among the farmers near his home. He worked for nearly nine years for “Uncle Enos” Struthers, as he was known in his neighborhood, and learned much from this conscientious and shrewd business man.

He has spent the last seventeen years of his life at Fairacres Farm where he died. His parents died some years ago but he leaves to mourn his death two sisters; Miss Patrea Jensen of Exira, and Mrs Hettie Nelson of Wiota, Iowa, also five brothers; Nels C Jensen and Sofa Jensen of Exira, Charles Jensen of Guthrie Center, a brother in Minnesota and one in Washington, and a host of friends, for everyone who knew “Little Jimmie” was his friend. Those who knew him best thought the most of him. He was a good citizen, a true friend and an honest, straightforward business man of a kindly, genial nature with charity for everyone and the kindest heart in the world.

“None knew him but to love him;
None named him but to praise.”

Note: This obituary was sent to me by Mary J. Rendleman Gilchrist, who also researches Audubon County families. The obit appears to be from the Audubon County Journal. Jimmy is reported by Mary to be buried at the Exira Cemetery between sisters, Cappie Dodge and Roxie Dodge Davis, who ran a horse business at Fairacres Farm.
