OBITUARY

MRS. LEILA I. NELSON

Leila I. Nelson, the daugh-
ter of Jacob Woodson and
Nellie H. Hellyer Kline, was
born Jan. 9, 1896 in Exira,
IA, and died Feb. 11, 1987 at
Audubon County Memorial
Hospital in Audubon, at the
age of 91 years, 1 month and
2 days.

She was baptized in the
Methodist Church in Exira.
She attended Exira schools,
graduating with the high
school class of 1915. She
then taught rural schools
near Exira.

On Oct. 31, 1917 she was
united in marriage to G.
Theodore Nelson in Atlantic.
They farmed for a number of
years in the Exira and Elk
Horn vicinities. They moved
into Exira and she was
employed as a bookkeeper
for Exira Plumbing and
Heating until she retired in
the early 1970's. Theodore
died on July 31, 1970. She
remained in her own home
until she became a resident
of the Exira Care Center in
December of 1984.

She was a member of the
Federated United Church of
Christ. She was a Sunday
School Superintendent for
many years and active with
the youth groups. She was
Mother Advisor with the
Exira Rainbow Girls for 27
years and a member of the
Exodus Chapter No. 313,
Order of the Eastern Star in
Exira.

Preceding her in death in
addition to her husband, was
her son; Stuart Nelson; her
parents; her brothers and
sisters, Evart N. Kline, J.
Leonard (Doc) Kline, Gene-
vieve M. Kness, Dallas W.
Kline, Mark F. Kline, O. Van
Kline, Merle I. Wheeler,
Pearl E. Kline, Taylor T.
Kline, Lois L. Kline, Phyllis
N. Kline, and Richard O.
Kline.

She is survived by her
grandson and his mother,
Gary D. Nelson and Marian
Messersmith, both of La
Crescenta, CA; her sisters-
in-law, Mrs. Mytrle Olsen of
Exira, Mrs. Olga Kline of
Atlantic, and Mrs. Florence
Kline of Pittsburgh, PA;
numerous nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were con-
ducted by the Rev. Nancy
Jensen on Saturday, Feb. 14,
1987 at the Federated United
Church of Christ in Exira at __
p.m. Interment was in the
Exira Cemetery. Easter__
Star Services were conducted
by Exodus Chapter No. 31____
O.E.S. on Friday evening ____
7 p.m. at Kessler's Funeral
Home in Exira.

Honorary casket bearers
were Audrin Foresman,
Kenneth Hansen, Cha___
Powers, Kenneth Toft,
Robert Williams, and Ke-
neth Struble.

Casket bearers were Glenn
Esbeck, Lloyd Klever,

Jacob Woodson "Wood" Kline and 3. Nellie Hannah Hellyer. She married George Theodore "Theo" Nelson October 31, 1917 in Atlantic, Iowa. He was born January 04, 1895 in Audubon Co., Iowa, and died July 31, 1970 in Exira, Audubon County, Iowa. He was the son of Gilbert Peter Nelson and Anna Christine Nelson.

3. Nellie Hannah Hellyer, born August 01, 1874 in Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; died October 29, 1960 in Exira, Audubon County, Iowa at her home. She was the daughter of 6. Van Buren Hellyer and 7. Isabella Tracy.
