“Albert Hamilton, a boy raised in Audubon and well known here, son of Leonard Hamilton, was run over and killed by the cars in Des Moines last Thursday night. The Des Moines papers said he was in the act of taking some oranges from a refridgerator car to appease hunger when he though he was being discovered and jumped out and just then a freight car which was being switched struck him. His right leg was crushed at the hip, almost severed at the knee, and his foot mashed. His shoulder was also dislocated. He only lived a few hours. He said he had had nothing to eat for thirth-six hours and it was evident he was suyffering from hunger as well as his wounds. Everything possible was done to relieve his sufferings. He seemed inbued with the pathetic condition that if he had remained at home he would not have been in trouble. His father, who has beeing living in Rock Island for some time recently, was communicated with. He went at once and the body was brought here Saturday. Sunday afternoon funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Rev. Shipman conducting them and the body was laid to rest.”
