Mar. 12, 1925, pg. 1NIECE OF LOCAL MAN DIES
The following taken from the Mara-
thon paper, is an account of the sud-
den passing of Miss Helen Johnson,
adopted daughter of Mrs. J. E. John-
son (Emma J. Ridgley), sister of Wm. Ridgley of this
city (Exira):"The community was shocked when
on Monday night word was passed
around that Helen Johnson, daughter
of Mrs. Joel E. Johnson, had died
suddenly at her home in this city."Helen had been playing with her
sister, Doris, on the ice after school
on Monday afternoon when she com-
plained suddenly that she was not
feeling well. She was advised to go
into the house and rest and after
much difficulty in entering the house,
she told her mother of a queer feeling
of dizziness and in another instant
had fallen over dead. A physician
was immediately called, but life was
already extinct. Heart trouble was
pronounced as the cause of her death,
as no marks of injury could be found."Helen was an exceptionally quiet
modest girl, giving much comfort and
happiness in serving her mother and
sister and was a good companion to
all her friends. Her absence in the
home and school will be keenly felt."She is survived by her mother by
adoption, Mrs. Joel Johnson, and a
sister, Doris Johnson, Mr. Johnson
having died January 12, 1923; two
brothers, Boyd and Evald of Des
Moines, her mother, Mrs. J. E. Hen-
derson of Sioux City."Funeral services were held at the
Methodist church of Marathon, con-
ducted by the pastor, Rev. Edwin A.
Briggs. Singing was furnished by the
Glee club of which Helen was a mem-
ber. Interment was made in Mara-
thon cemetery."Wm. Ridgley of this place (Exira) and Mrs.
Pilmer of Atlantic, uncle and aunt of
the deceased, were in attendance at
the funeral services.
