Chris Heckman, pioneer resident of
this county, passed away Wednesday
evening abut 6:30, following a long
illness.No funeral arrangements had been
completed at the time we were ready

Johan Christian Heckman was born
in Baden, Germany, August 24, 1846,
and died Wednesday, December 3rd,
at his home in Exira. He came here
in 1883 and located on a farm eight
miles southeast of town. Many years
ago Mr. Heckman retired from the
farm and moved to Exira, where he
has resided ever since till the time of
his death. His wife (Susanna Christiana Reichert 1849-1897) died about 25
years ago.There were fourteen children, seven
of whom are living. They are: Mrs.
Louise Wahe, Anita; Mrs. Lena Voss,
Moulton; Mrs. Freda Jurgens, Exira;
Mrs. Susie Schlater, Exira, Sam, Ga-
latia, Kansas; Chris and Carl, Exira.Funeral services were held from the
home Sunday at 10:30 a. m. conducted
by Rev. P. C. Jensen, and from the
German Lutheran church in Audubon
township at two o'clock p. m. conduct-
ed by Rev. Geo. Griesse. Interment
was made in the Lutheran cemetery in
Audubon township.
