A LETTER FROM
ORVILLE F. BEERS

--------

St. Nazaire, France
April 12, 1919
Dear Mother and All:--I am
back to camp after taking my ten
day furlough. Came back yesterday
morning but was most too tired
to write then, after spending the
night before on the train. I had a
very good time while I was gone
and enjoyed myself very much and
it was sure some rest for me to get
out of the shop for a few days and
to have a good soft bed to sleep in
and sleep as long as, you like. We
have good eats too.

The place where we have been is
a lease area for the American soldiers
at St. Malo, France. It is up
on the Northwestern coast of
France, along the English Channel.
It is quite a nice place and has
some old historical places that
are very interesting. I have some
post card views of different places
there, which I think I will send
home in a few days as I do not
know when I will be home. I received
the papers 0. K. that you
sent me and also two letters from
you, one from Margaret and one
from Bert. The one from Bert was
written while he was in Davenport.
It was some long time on the road.

Dear Mother, I was sorry to hear
that you was not feeling well. I
sure am hoping that you are feeling
better by this time. Was glad to
hear that Margaret is better again.
Mother, don't worry about me. I
am well and feeling fine all the
time and have a good time once in
a while. Only you know how bad
I want to get home, but I will be
there some day and I am waiting
patiently for that day to come.

Well mother, I don't know much
news so suppose I must quit. It
sure is hard for me to write a let-
ter. It seems as if there isn't any-
thing at all to write about. I suppose
about all you care to know is
how I am and when I am coming
home. I will close, hoping this
finds everyone at home well and
happy. As ever

Your Loving Son and Brother,
CORP. ORVILLE F. BEERS

Note: Parents of Orville Franklin Beers (1895-1958) were Franklin "Frank" Beers and Mary Theresa "Mamie" Meurer. Orville was married to Emma S. Sorenson.
