Audubon County Journal (IA)
Thursday, Mar. 20, 1902, pg. 3

Mrs. J. P. Lair, becoming uneasy
at not hearing from her son, Roy
Davis, who was in the Philippines
until recently when his time expir-
ed and he was to have been sent
home, telegraphed, last week, to the
commander at the Presidio near
San Francisco, California, and re-
ceived a reply stating that only a
detachment of the regiment had
been sent to the seat of war and they
had been sent back to their
regiment which is still in Porto
Rico. He, with others whose term
of enlistment has expired, will be
sent home from that point.

Note: Parents of Roy Davis were William J. Davis and Nancy Jane Tongate. James Pleasant "Plez" Lair was Roy's step-father.
