EXIRA LADY VICTIM OF
MYSTERIOUS ATTACK----------
Two Unknown Assailants Bind and
Gag Mrs. John Johnson and Are
Then Frightened Away---------
Mystery shrouds the attack on Mrs.
John Johnson, well known Exira lady,
at her home here last Saturday eve-
ning, according to reports. Mrs. John-
son, who has been ill for some time,
and was bedfast until recently, was
in the house alone, according to her
story, when she heard quick steps
on the front porch and someone at
the front door. Thinking it was one
of the neighbors who had been in
the habit of coming in during her
illness, she bade them enter, and
two men whom she describes as
masked, one tall and one short, en-
tered the room. This, she says, is the last she re-
members until she was found by her
son, Leonard Johnson, who had
stepped out for a few minutes. Her
feet and arms had been tied and her
mouth gagged with her apron. There
had been no attempt at an attack and
Mrs. Johnson was not beaten, so far
as has been ascertained. It is thought that the men were
frightened away when an automobile
went along the road west of the John-
son place.Sheriff Jorgensen was called to the
scene, shortly after Mrs. Johnson's
predicament became known and he
has been at work on the case, but
thus far there is no clue.
