Floyd Lemmon Jones was the son of Ted and Margaret Mae Lemmon Jones. Mae's ancestry can be traced back to the 1750's in Ireland and her parents' family were pioneer settlers of Audubon County, IA. Floyd was born on May 11, 1918 in Forsyth, Musselshell County, Montana and died April 18, 2004 at the Friendship Home in Audubon,IA at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 7 days.

Floyd attended school in Gage, MT, then completed his education at the Audubon Community Schools. Due to illness, Floyd had to quit school his sophomore year in high school. Floyd attended Morton Aircraft School in Omaha, NE where he studied airplane assembly for approximately 6 months. Floyd, like his ancestors who served in the Revolutionary Ware, Civil War and World War I, also served his country when he was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 27, 1942. He had his basic training at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, then served as a munitions handler in northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on November 17, 1945. He returned to Audubon and helped operate the family farm. In 1966, he moved into Audubon with his parents and cared for them until their deaths, Mae in January of 1968 and Ted in April of 1985. Floyd lived at home until he moved to the Friendship Home in 1996 to recover from a broken hip.

Floyd lived in Audubon County for 74 years after moving with his family from Montana in 1930. He was a member of our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was baptized on July 12, 2001. Floyd enjoyed eating and especially loved homemade ice cream and Kentucky Fried Chicken. He also enjoyed caring for his family and tending his flowers. He enjoyed attending rodeos and his travels to Montana and Oregon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his infant sister, Doris Bonnalyn Jones; his brothers-in-law: Donald Rutherfor and Leo Jensen.

Survivors include his sisters and brother: Bernice and husband, Duane Barratt of Irwin, IA; Boyd (Bud) and wife, Ina Jones of Pendleton, OR: Fauntella Rutherford of Elgin,OR; Audrey Jensen of Audubon,IA; his nieces and nephews: Margaret Ann Wood, Kathyn Mitchell and Bernard Jones, all of Pendleton, OR: Sandra Kay Rutherford of Phoenix, AZ; Alan Rutherford of St. George, UT; Michael Rutherford of Elgin, OR; Gail Burke and Jennifer Jensen, both of Omaha, NE; Wayne Jensen of Raytown, MO; Karen Nelson and her husband Roger of Oakland, IA; Karla Jensen and her husband Mark of Beaver Dam, WI; numerous great nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Honorary casket bearers will be Boyd (Bud) Jones, Duane Barratt, Chris (Ralph) Jones, Emmert Madsen, and George Owen. Casket bearers will be Dennis Miller, Doug Gleason, Jerry Karns, Roger Nelson, Mark Jensen and Wayne Jensen. Burial of the cremains in Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon will be at a later date.
