Richard C. Potts, 67, of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 in his home.
Richard Clair Potts was born September 29, 1933 in Albia, Iowa to Kenneth and Dorothy (Jones) Potts. He married Judy Nelson, July 29, 1962 in Burlington, Iowa.
He graduated from Moravia High School in 1951, and attended Drake University in 1952, and received his bachelors degree in 1955, from University of Northern Iowa. He later received his Masters degree from Truman State University in August of 1966.
He taught high school at Royal High School, Royal, Iowa in 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958, and taught in Royal from 1958-1960. He then taught at Clear Lake High School, Clear Lake, Iowa, from 1960-1965. He later taught at Clinton High School from 1965 until retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. A member of the National Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association, and the Clinton Education Association. He served as Clinton's High School's Homecoming Grand Marshall in 1999, and was very active in the Clinton County Democratic Party. He is survived by his wife Judy Potts, of Clinton, three sons; Matt and David of Minneapolis, Minn., and James of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Robert L. Potts of Blakesburg, Iowa; one sister, Martha Bates of Washington, Iowa; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 until service time at the church.
Memorial services will be at 11 am Saturday, Oct. 21 at Zion Lutheran Church, Rev. Brian A. "Pete" Hagglund and William Michaelson officiating.
