Page 2Robert (Babe) Jennings, 84, resident of Moravia the past five years, and lifelong resident of Appanoose County, passed away Friday, November 1, 1974, at Monroe County hospital in Albia.
He was born September 22, 1890, in Appanoose County to Ervin and Ella Mekell Jennings.
Mr. Jennings was well known in this area. He had earned the respect of townsfolk and neighbors in Iconium where he grew up and at Moravia. He was particularly interested in baseball, having been pitcher for the Iconium baseball team at one time.
He was reared by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ross on a farm west of Moravia. The preceded him in death.
On October 21, 1911 he was united in marriage to Jennie Sytsma who preceded him, as did his step-grandmother and one great-grandchild.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Arthur (Mandana) Lewis, Harrison, Ark., Harry Jennings, Centerville and Charles Jennings, Haverhill, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a step-brother, John Herman.
Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from Turner Funeral Home in Moravia with Rev. L. B. Deedrick officiating and burial in Iconium Cemetery.
