Killed by the Cars

Last Wednesday forenoon a telegram was received here stating that "Budd" Lane had been killed by the cars near Wayland station in Henry county. G. W. Merritt and Loyd Lane took the 2 o'clock train and repaired to Wayland getting back by the night express, bringing the remains. The funeral took place from the residence of G. W. Merritt on Thursday at 2 p.m. From what account we could get of the matter it seems that he had commenced to work for the company that morning on a construction train. he was on the rear car and the train was running backwards at a rapid rate, when a cow got stuck on the track throwing several cars from the rails. He was thrown off and several cars passed over him, killing him instantly.
