OBITUARY
Sarah Catherine ElginSarah Catherine Talkington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Talkington was born on November 9, 1856 and departed this life at her home in Centerville, Iowa on March 24, 1944, at the age of 87 years, four months and 15 days.
On September 18, 1874 she was united in marriage to J. H. Elgin. To this union six children were born. Two passed away in infancy and four survive her passing: The surviving children are G. B. Elgin, J. R. Elgin, May Carpenter and Della Owen. She is also survived by two half-brothers, George Talkington of Hoxie, Kansas and Otto of Craig, Colorado.
Ten. grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Her husband preceded her in death in May, 1911.
Mrs. Elgin was what we call a lifetime member of the Christian church, having united with the church when she was a young girl. She moved to Centerville about 33 years ago, and transferred her membership to the Christian church here at that time. She was faithful to the church throughout her entire lifetime, and attended faithfully long as strength and health wouldn't permit.
She was a good neighbor and a loving wife and mother. For some time she had been in failing health, but her passing was sudden and came as a shock to her family and loved ones.
Aside from the above-mentioned relatives she is mourned by many loved ones and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Beckner funeral home Sunday afternoon with the Rev. H. E. Trimble officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Brushy.
Daughter of Peter Talkington and Sarah Ely Talkington, wife of Job Hastings Elgin.
