Miner Killed at Mystic
~
Mystic, Aug. 3. – D. "Dug" Keith and another miner called “Shorty” got drunk at Mystic Sunday night. They started home sometime before midnight and that it is supposed that after getting down near the track near the city limits sat down to rest, and then their drowsiness overcame them and they fell asleep. Keith lay upon the track but “Shorty” lay alongside the track, where he was found in a drunken stupor after the train had passed. As the north-bound Milwaukee passenger was coming into the Mystic yard it struck Keith, running over his body and killing him instantly. The engineer stopped his train and backed to the place of the accident, finding Keith’s body horribly mangled. “Shorty” was lying aside the track still asleep and it took some work to awaken him.
