Florence J Halden
Florence J. Holbrook, daughter of Solomon and Mary Holbrook was born Sept 29, 1865 in Cincinnati, Iowa and passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Jack Fuller, Sept 7, 1946 in Cincinnati.
Florence was the youngest of a family of seven children and the last of her paternal family.
She was united in marriage to Adam C. Halden, Dec 17, 1884. To this union were born four children, two sons having preceded her in death. Surviving are Mrs. Jack Fuller of Cincinnati, Iowa, and Mrs.Doyle Erskine of Centerville, Iowa. Also one granddaughter Mary Ann Erskine to whom she was greatly devoted; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her husband passed away on May 27, 1914, being killed by lightening.
She was a member of the Congregational church of Cincinnati and upon moving to Centerville changed her membership to the first Presbyterian church. Her father Solomon Holbrook, and his brother Luther Holbrook were pioneer citizens of Appanoose county, each having entered 160 acres of land from the U.S. government, part of the town of Cincinnati. Her grandfather the Rev. Joseph Welsh, was appointed postmaster Nov 11, 1851, three years before the town was plotted in March 7, 1855.
The Solomon Holbrook home, a brick mansion of the early days still stands in Cincinnati where Mrs. Halden was born and spent her childhood days.
She was a kind and loving mother and will be sadly missed by those near and dear to her.
