DEATH WM. DINES
AN OLD SOLDIER

SHORTLY AFTER CLOSE OF MEMORIAL DAY

FAMILY WAS AT HIS BEDSIDE

Served in Ohio Regiment and Later in a Battery, Taking a Part in the Seige of Vicksburg

The first soldier to answer the final summons since Memorial day was Wm. Dines, who died at 6:40 this morning at the late home, 308 E. Franklin, after a month's serious illness with heart trouble, bronchitis and stomach trouble. He was conscious till within a short time of death, when he passed away with the family at his bedside. He had been patient through much suffering, realized the end was approaching, and expressed his readiness to cross the line from life into the beyond.
Wm. Dines was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1838, died May 31, 1907. He enlisted in the 32nd Ohio Inf. serving in that, and later in the 26th Independent battery, being in the fierce artillery engagements at Vicksburg and in many other battes. He was married to Susan Miller, of Stark county, Ohio, Jan. 14, 1863, while home from war. In 1880 they moved to Kansas, and in 1883 to Douglas township, this county, coming from there to Centerville in 1893, where he has followed his vocation of stone mason till failing health resulted in a cessation of active work two or three years. He leaves his wife and four children, Mrs. Eliza Catherine Peabody, Miss Margaret Jane Dines, James E. Dines and Mrs. Carrie Estella Yant, all of this city. Two children are dead. He became a member of the Methodist church during the
pastorate of Rev. A. V. Kendrick, and has been identified with the G. A. R. post. His life has been an industrious and useful one, he taking great pleasure in home associations, and enjoying the presence of his family. He had a patient spirit in his suffering, expressed his resignation, and welcomed the hour of
deliverance from pain. By his death another honored soldier and citizen has left the useful walks of life.
