COWLES.—At his home about three and one half miles east of Centerville, Thursday, April 12, 1883, George N. Cowles, aged about 38.
Mr. Cowles served during the war in Co. H. 8th Iowa Cavalry. He had a severe attack of Small-pox at Nashville in 1861, which destroyed the sight of one eye and incapacitated him for field service in consequence of which he was
transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps, where he served during the remainder of the war. Since the war he has been most of the time engaged in
farming, but for the past few years has not been able to do but little work in consequence of a complication of diseases, consumption being one.
Funeral took place on Friday.
