THIRD PIONEER
CALLED BY DEATH;
MRS. CLARA BALES

Bend, and Grandpa Stevens
of Sharon Precede Her

The third aged pioneer of Appanoose county to be called within the past week, is Mrs. Clara Bales, who would have been 80 years of age Tuesday of this week, and who has lived in Appanoose county for 77 years. She had resided in the home in which she died at Livingston, for a period of 63 years. Mrs. Bales died at 4:30 p. m. Sunday. Funeral services are to be held at the Livingston church at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday.

Born in New York. Mrs. Bales came with her parents to Livingston vicinity when she was three years of age.. When 17 years old, she united in marriage with Peter Bales, who preceded her in death some 16 years ago. Three children survive and are: Mrs. E. E. Harl, of Numa, Mrs. E. Desper and Mrs. E. E. Condra, all of this county. There are 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bales was a member of the Baptist church for three quarters of a century.

Well Known.
A woman of fine character and kindly to those about her the deceased was known and liked by hundreds of relatives and friends who mourn her death. Especially those of Livingston community will sadly miss this splendid pioneer, whose life has been a part of the town since its early years.
Mr. Lucy Santee Showalter, of North Bend vicinity and W. R. "Grandpa" Stevens, of Sharon, both of whom, like Mrs. Bales had lived in their respective communities for three quarters of a century, were called by death during the latter part of last week. All three were notable for their long life and their long residence in the
vicinities of their choice.
